1981 — 2009, quasi tre decadi di operazioni al servizio della comunità, questo è sicuramente il miglior biglietto da visita per presentare i “Boxer”. Purtroppo, come ormai accade molto più spesso in questi ultimi anni molto difficili per l’Arma Azzurra, queste onorevoli storie vengono interrotte, infatti dal marzo dello scorso anno, anche gli AB 212 della 651ª hanno “prestato” alla nazione il loro ultimo turno di allarme SAR (Search and Rescue — Ricerca e Soccorso). Ora, come lo è stato per molte altre Squadriglie Collegamenti, il futuro si fa colmo di incertezze, per molte altre la chiusura è già sopraggiunta, fortunatamente per la 651ª questo momento sembra ancora abbastanza lontano, ma comunque si sono già viste le prime avvisaglie con una riduzione dei mezzi a disposizione e con appunto il completamento dei turni di allarme, servizi prestati che comunque rimarranno come un fiore all’occhiello per tutto lo Stormo, anche in un futuro lontano senza la 651ª. In questi lunghi anni la Squadriglia si è contraddistinta per avere partecipato con i propri uomini e mezzi alla salvaguardia delle popolazioni di tutta Italia, ricordo la calamità del Friuli, degli alluvioni del Piemonte e della Versilia, e della sciagura di Sarno, gli uomini del Soccorso Aereo si sono anche contraddistinti per buona volontà e professionalità nelle centinaia di missioni svolte per il trasporto di organi, sangue e plasma, ammalati gravi, traumatizzati, ricerche e salvataggi di persone sia in mare che in montagna, tutto ciò molto spesso in condizioni normali, ma anche molte volte in condizioni meteorologiche avverse o di notte. Molte sono state le attestazioni di stima, da parte delle testate locali, definendo il personale della 651ª come “Angeli del Cielo”, ogni qualvolta sono stati citati durante le missioni svolte a favore della comunità, mentre forse il riconoscimento con più valore in assoluto, è stato quello ricevuto dalla Squadriglia nel 2002, con la consegna delle chiavi della città di Treviso da parte del Comune in segno di gratitudine.
Ovviamente il compito del Soccorso Aereo svolto in questi anni non è stato l’unico del Reparto, l’altro compito istituzionale, anche se meno appariscente, è quello di fornire allo Stormo il servizio di “collegamento”, servizio che viene principalmente effettuato attualmente con i velivoli Aermacchi MB 339A, prima dell’avvento del 339 il ruolo era svolto dalla Squadriglia con i “vecchi” “Macchini” MB 326 sino alla fine degli anni ottanta, mentre se andiamo ancora più nel passato addirittura con il “mitico” T 33A per il collegamento e con l’RT 33A per il traino bersagli. Visto che abbiamo accennato al passato non si può ricordare che la Squadriglia ha operato nel ruolo SAR anche con il predecessore del 212, il monomotore AB 204B.
Per tornare al ruolo di collegamento della Squadriglia volevo menzionare il fatto che per qualche periodo, anche abbastanza recente, il Reparto ha avuto a disposizione anche due velivoli contemporaneamente del famoso addestratore, ora con il periodo di crisi generalizzato, il velivolo viene dato direttamente dalla Scuola Basica di Lecce-Galatina (61° Stormo) in base alla disponibilità di macchine. |

Now, as it has been for many other Squadriglie Collegamenti, the future is full of uncertainties, for many others the closure has already arrived, fortunately for the 651ª this moment still seems quite far, however, we have already seen the first signs with a reduction in the means available and with the completion of the alarm rounds, services provided that will remain as a flagship for the entire Stormo, even in the distant future without the 651ª In these long years the Squadriglia has distinguished itself for having participated with its men and machines to the safeguard of the populations of all Italy, I remember the calamity of the Friuli, the floods of the Piemonte and the Versilia, and the disaster of Sarno, the men of the Air Rescue also distinguished themselves for goodwill and professionalism in the hundreds of missions carried out for the transport of organs, blood and plasma, seriously ill, traumatized, search and rescue of people both at sea and in the mountains, all this very often in normal conditions, but also many times in adverse weather conditions or at night. Many have been the attestations of esteem, from the local newspapers, defining the staff of the 651ª as "Angels of Heaven", every time they have been cited during the missions carried out in favor of the community, while perhaps the recognition with more value in absolute, was the one received by the Squadriglia in 2002, with the handover of the keys to the city of Treviso by the City Council in gratitude.
Obviously the task of the Air Rescue carried out in these years was not the only one of the Unit, the other institutional task, although less striking, is to provide the Stormo with the service of "liaison", a service that is mainly carried out currently with Aermacchi MB 339A aircraft, before the advent of 339 the role was played by the Squadriglia with the "old" "Macchini" MB 326 until the end of the eighties, if we go even further in the past even with the "legendary" T 33A for liaison and with the RT 33A for target towing. Since we have mentioned the past we cannot remember that the Squadriglia operated in the role SAR also with the predecessor of the 212, the single engine AB 204B.
To return to the role of liaison of the Squadriglia I wanted to mention the fact that for some time, even quite recently, the Unit also had two aircraft at the same time of the famous trainer, now with the period of generalized crisis, the aircraft is given directly by the Scuola Basica of Lecce-Galatina (61° Stormo) according to the availability of machines.
